Replaced Odometer Gear Now Tach Reads Low 1997 850 GLT

I replaced the odometer gear and now my tach reads 0 at idle, 1500 at 70 and the needle drops a good 3/4 of an inch below 0 when you turn the car off. Did I bump the needle when I had the cluster apart? Or could it be something else.

I believe that you may have bumped the needle, I have a similar issue with my temp gauge. It reads at the 2' o'clock position , which really irritates me, however not enough to take out the cluster for the third time. I , honestly do not remember bumping it, but I think that a hard enough knock can cause a needle shift. I suppose you have two options, either dive into the cluster and adjust the needle to the correct rest position or get another cluster from a you pull yard. Of course you never know what you really get from the yard so the former option is my best bet.

I learned the importance of re-zeroing the gauges before you put everything back together after the first one as well. The only way to fix it is to take the cluster apart again. To re-zero the speedometer and the tach you need to move the gauge to full scale with your finger and then let go and let it return. It may take 2 or 3 times to get it right.
