HEAD GASKET/TIMING BELT INSALATION PROBLEM, PLEASE HELP

Post by val »

:? :? HALLO, I JUST GOT AN 2001 V 40 1.9T PETROL, BUT THE HEAD GASKET WENT BAD. AFTER GETTING THE NEW GASKET AND RESURFACED THE HEAD, I BOUGHT A NEW WATER PUMP AND TIMING BELT. EVERYTHING WAS GOING WELL UNTIL THE MECHANIC STARTED TO PUT THE TIMING BELT IN PLACE. HE IS STILL WORKING ON THE CAR, AND HE CLAIMS THAT HE NEEDS SOME SPECIAL TOOL THAT LOCKS THE PULLEYS IN PLACE AND WITHOUT THIS TOOL HE CANNOT GET THE CORRECT TIMING . HE ALSO SAYS THE TOOL COSTS $800 .......IS THIS TRUE, AND HOW COMES NO MECHANIC KNOWS ABOUT THIS TOOL(I HAVE CALLED SEVERAL PLACES)IF IT'S TRUE, HOW CAN I OBTAIN THIS SPECIAL TOOL?IF NOT,THEN WHAT IS HE DOUING WRONG? THANKS

I replaced the head gasket on my 2000 V40, I did not need a special tool, you just need to make sure the marks line up on the timing chain and the pulley. A couple of wrenches can get the job done.
