Local Mechanic VS Volvo prices for Timing belt replacement.

Local Mechanic VS Volvo prices for Timing belt replacement.

I think Volvo says it runs around $850.00 for timing belt replacement on a XC70. Thats with changing all tensioners and the water pump and all I am sure. Can a good independent shop that works on Volvos beat that by a good amount or am I better off just letting Volvo do it?

Indie mechanics will beat that. Check them for reputation and talk to them face to face before you leave your car there.

Thats just it will I have to tear the car apart to see if they really put a water pump in and new tensioners...... How much would you say the average shop will charge me. I checked with one import shop and they were equal if not higher and if thats the case I may as well have Volvo do it.

That's rediculously high.
I pay around $350 for a timing belt and tensioner.. installed, add $100 for a water pump, there's really no extra labor involved!

You could purchase the parts from us online, then ask the shop how much labor they would charge to install. This way you know factory blue box parts were used and you can compare the labor rates and times for the best price. Any questions please send an email.

I found a local indie volvo mechanic he told me it would run about half of what volvo wants for a timing belt but didn't think it was needed to change the water pump at 105,000. What do you guys think?

On the 70k and 80k mile interval cars opinion is mostly split on this. But on a 105k interval I'd do it.
