Removing 99 V70 ETM

Post by jbrown122 »

I'm having some early symptoms of ETM failure (stumbling, very slight surging), and I think I'm gonna clean the ETM tomorrow. From what I see it's pretty straight forward, correct? Remove the hose, unbolt it, probably disconnect a wire or two and take it out, is that how it goes?
What risks are associated with this?

yeah pretty much it. remove the tube that goes into the etm. two clamps. one at each end. should be four 10mm bolts that hold the etm onto the intake manifold. remove the wire connectors. there is a special chemical that volvo sells for cleaning throttles. u could just use carb cleaner on a rag and careful wipe off all the black gunk inside the throttle and off the butter fly wheel. reinstall and reset your adaptives. might work might not. alot of times we see the sensors go inside these. and fyi all the aem etm i've seen would not work with volvo diagnostic software( couldn't downloaded into them). so oem sometimes is the best way to go.
