Gas leak at tank/filler tube joint

Post by andyleonard »

96 850. Found a puddle of gas under the car at the gas station when filling up. Looks like the neck of the tank and the filler tube go in a rubber slip joint with a clamp around it... which is dripping. Also looks like this piece has been worked on already. Should I have a new rubber on hand when this comes apart or can some kind of sealer be used?

I would replace that rubber joint if you ask me.Fuel dripping could be very dangerous.

Hi,
My 97 T-5 started doing the same thing just this morning. I believe that there was a recall on the gas leak issue, but I don't even know if Volvo would fix it under recall at the point, it's been 12 years already. I have my mechanic look at it at the end of the month, will post you the result. If my car catches on fire before that, well, I guess I'll have another story to tell (if I survive to tell the story...).
