Anyone here ever have to replace the fuel hinge on an 89 740? I guess I got a bit rough with the gas pump, and cracked the top of the black plastic hinge holder that holds the gas cap cover on. The replacement part is cheap (under 10 dollars) but the broken part looks to be riveted on in some fashion. I'm not too sure how to remove it, and am wondering if it's a job that will turn into a headache. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Ian

Been there done that. You can order a new one from eBAY. I spent $8.00, shipping included. You just break the old one off (I used a screwdriver to pry it off). You place the new one over the holes in the body and CAREFULLY tap the plastic pins that protrude from the hinge. This forces the hinge pins to expand behind the body (kind of similar to dry wall anchors you use in your home to hang heavy things on drywall.) It's really very simple but the plastic pins DO break very easily when you are trying to pound them through. I broke 2 of them and luckily had some small screws the same size as the pins. Screwed those in and it is holding like new.
