Alarm Not working ...no flashy thing on dash???

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Alarm Not working ...no flashy thing on dash???

Post by gregonz1 »

Hi All, What a great site....Have read a lot on the site about the alarms not working and replacing the module etc...My question is that the people that encounter this problem, does the light on the dash still flash, as my alarm does not work or make any sound, there is no error message that has come up..(I have only had the car 2 weeks so the message may have been cleared). but the light on the dash by the windscreen does not even flash when you lock the car. Don't want to replace the module and find it is something else causing the problem. Have checked fuse all good . Everything else on the car works 100% fine and it drives like a dream.

I'm one of those who posted an alarm siren problem. I removed the bad siren module and lived without it for a few months. The entire time it was out of the car, the red LED indicator flashed just like everything worked okay (of course it did not). I finally broke down and picked up a good used module and installed it yesterday. All's fine and the alarm works again. I don't know what could cause the dash indicator to not flash if it flashes even with the siren module removed!?!?!

Hi, Thanks for your reply. Will replace module and see what happens...maybe it has short circuited the part of the electronic board that operates the red light.

By the way what side of the car was your module on?? As mine is right hand drive as I live in New Zealand, and I did not want to take the wrong side inner guard off. Is the module on the opposite side I wonder being right hand drive??? Cheers, Greg

Hello Gentlemen: In my 2004 S-80 I have that silly yellow triangle light on my dashboard instrument cluster panel saying Alarm System Service Required. I'm happy top replace any siren module but have no idea where it would be located. I like the idea of taking out the siren module but i have no idea about its location or appearance. Can any of you gentlemen post a few pictures or at least let me know if it is inside the passenger compartment or the engine compartment and which side of the vehicle it may be on and perhaps how close tot he firewall it may be located. I like to wing wrenches and I fancy myself to be pretty good so I ain't afraid and have plenty of time. Thank you The Old Guy

Here is a file from VADIS with the info you require re the siren.
But perhaps you should get your DTC's read to confirm if it is indeed the siren module?
Note it has instructions for other sensors also. You need to scroll down a bit to the part regarding the siren.
