S80 T6 - 2002 - Breather box leakage

Post by ldbvolvo »

My dealer is telling me that he is seeing that my breather box
seals are leaking and that it is going to cost $600 to replace
it.

He stated the breather box is leaking in such a way that the
whole box needs to be replaced.

Is there a better solution? :)

Thanks ..

Is the dealer referring to the 'Oil trap' of the crankcase ventilation system? i.e. I don't know what is meant by 'Breather box'...

Exactly, he is referring to the PCV Oil Trap device ... I have not
seen it priced anywhere for $600 yet.

The parts alone are not much money. Part number 9497454 is the oil trap, and the two seals you need will be 30713120, and 8653339. There are a few one time use crimp clamps also needed to put the oil trap back in. The labor on this job is close to 4 hours. You will need to remove all the charge air tubing and the intake manifold to access the oil trap. Not a quick and easy repair. If you are feeling confident, you can buy all needed parts through us and take it on yourself. Good Luck!
