newbie- considering s60 or xc70 with high mileage

Post by jlp »

Hi everybody,
First i must say i'm impressed by the amount of info i've found here.

I used to have a 240dl, 1991. Then i spoiled myself an rented an audi a4 .My lease has just ended an i'm looking for a used Volvo, preferably with manual trans.

I just found this nice 2001 s60 t5, 305000km, it has high kilometres,but if it has a documented maintenance, it doesn't scare me.Here's the link:http://www.autohebdo.net/used_cars_Auto ... =&r=quebec

My second choice would be a 2002 xc70 from a Volvo dealer,240000km, automatic for 4500$, i guess they can provide the maintenance history of vehicule.(sorry no link)

If mileage that high is risky business, i could also consider a 1998 v70 with 150000km or so, but it remains a 3rd choice for me.

I'm planning to keep the car around 2 years, and will put an average 15000-20000km per year. I know a reputable independant Volvo mechanic half an hour drive from my place, they have the VIDA disgnostic equip., they charge 60$/hr.

So the big question, wich model is best in term of reliabily, my research points the s60, but i'm hesitant.
Any advice apreciated, of course i would have the cars inspected.
j.

Buy a post-2003 XC, or a post 2001 anything 2WD. XC's got a better AWD system in '03.

Volvos from '99 to 2001 had ETM problems (except S40/V40).
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

1998 V70, no dash lights on

1997 850 T5 [gone] w/ MSD ignition coil, Hallman manual boost controller, injectors, R bumper, OMP strut brace

2004 V70 R [gone]
