Thank you Bill of Durham, I will check the lights. When you say "run in" do you mean "broken in" as in has it's stride and still has a long way to go? I'm told the 240DL can go 300,000 miles or more. I do really like this car and will keep it as long as I can manage insurance on both my just purchased 2007 Corolla LE and the 240. I may not have needed to purchase another car after all, but being without one is pretty awful.

The 240 also has a compression sound when I accelerate. It's not really a sucking sound, but more like a compressor with air being squeezed. Not sure what that is. Any thoughts? It's a bit sluggish on acceleration, especially uphill, and then the sound is much more pronounced.

"Run in" in the UK is the same as "broken in" in the US. We have a common language that is different. :?

300,000 is not uncommon on these cars and some have done considerably more.

Attached is a check list for "insufficient engine power" which is the nearest I can get to your problem without hearing the car.

You can do the checks in any order. I would start with the exhaust.

Thank you again. I will check the exhaust first.
It would be very remarkable to have the Volvo last longer than my "new" 2007 Corolla. I know I will love having both.
