Hi Everyone,

Jim Haughey of K-Pax racing is offering VCOA members this wonderful opportunity:

What:
K-Pax Racing (S60Rs) at Laguna Seca Raceway

Sac Volvo Club Event Flyer:
http://www.sacvolvoclub.org/Home/events/event-flyer

K-Pax Racing website:
www.kpaxracing.com

Laguna Seca Raceway website:
http://www.mazdaraceway.com/

When:
Sunday, October 11, 2009
2:45P

Where:
Laguna Seca Raceway
1021 Monterey-Salinas Hwy
Salinas, CA 93908

Copy and Paste from the Event Flyer:
"My name is Jim Haughey, owner of K-Pax Racing. I am a VCOA club member and own a Volvo repair business near San Jose, California . We race two S60R Volvos in the Speed World-Challenge GT racing series. You may have heard of us, if not, look in the September/October edition of Rolling Magazine on page 15 for our current story.

We will be at Laguna Seca Raceway, near Monterey California, October 8 thru 11. We race on Sunday October 11 at 2:45 pm. We have won two races so far this year, beating Porsches, Vipers, Mustangs and Corvettes. Laguna Seca looks to be a good track for the Volvos. Trying not to wave our flag too much, but these are the fastest Volvos in the world!

I’d like to invite any club members out to the track and if there is sufficient interest we can gather the VCOA members at our paddock area and have a talk for the members, let them get a close look at the cars, maybe sit in the cars, show everyone our trailers, motors, transmissions, meet the drivers and have a good time. The reason I am writing is to see if your local chapter has any interest in coming to Laguna Seca for our race. I am also extending invitations to the Golden Gate Chapter and perhaps some local dealers.

Here is a link to the schedule http://www.world-challenge.com/files/schedules/2009%20MRLS%20ScheduleR1.pdf.
Here is the link to our website, www.kpaxracing.com.
I also CC’d Dave Drimmie; he is the VP of Marketing and Communication for our series and may be able to get us some free stuff.

Let me know what you think.

Regards,
Jim Haughey

Wow, that looks like the real deal if Andy Pilgrim is driving for them. I have been following sports car racing for over 25 years and Andy has always been top notch.

Does this series get any kind of TV coverage? I have not seen the series on Speed.

I would quit my engineering job and give my left nut to work for a team like that.

Hi Ozark Lee,

I just read the K-Pax article in the Sept./Oct. 2009 Rolling Magazine and I'm also quite impressed with the team's success!
I love it when Volvo wins!

I did a quick Google search for "SPEED Touring Car Championship, tv coverage" and came across this link:
http://www.world-challenge.com/season.php?year=2009
So, it looks like the events will be broadcast on Speed, but with a delay:

The Leguna Seca Event can be seen
Broadcast on SPEED:
Tuesday, November 3 at 2 p.m. (EST)
If anyone else is interested, here is a link to the Speed World Challenge Main site:
http://www.world-challenge.com/

Hope that helps.

Take care,
volvie!

Hi Everyone,

An update:

CJ, the GGVCOA President, posted this at Turbobricks:
We are trying to give Jim an accurate number of people that are going to show. If you are planning on attending this event please R.S.V.P. John Sharp at [email protected] to get on the list. Depending on the amount of people that show some may be able to sit in the cars, ask very specific questions about them etc. This will all depend on the size of the group. Jim has said there will be some Volvo SWAG to boot!
