Currently we have a 98 S70, thinking of getting a newer Volvo. Was interested in the S60. Doing research, I noticed that the S60 is discontinued after 2009! So, now S40 is too small, and S80 too expensive.
Why did Volvo discontinue the S60?
Is the new S80 supposed to be the S60 and S80 combined?
If I get a used S60, will the resale value be really low because it s a discontinued model?
Thanks for your thoughts,

Well, any used Volvo has already depreciated and will continue to at a standard rate. What you'd want to be wary of is accelerated rate of depreciation while you owned it. Something that would affect the normal rate... like exploding fuel tanks, etc. I wouldn't worry about that.
As for Volvo's plans, there is a new S60 coming up: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =9&t=22917

The new 2010 S60 is expected to go on sale early next year.

We have an 850 sedan and bought an S60 AWD thinking we'd get rid of the 850. We ended up keeping the 850 and getting rid of the S60. The S60 is substantially smaller than the car you have now, and the "coupe" look roof line really compromises headroom throughout. Also, the window sill on the S60 is uncomfortable for resting your arm, while the flat one in the 850 (and S/V70 derivatives) is quite comfortable. Little things, I know, but coupled with the fact that our S60 had lots of "software" issues early on made us realize how much we liked the 850.
The S60 has a much better stereo, was a superb snow car (in AWD trim), and has other virtues. Plenty of people like them.
Be careful if you ever plan to put a child seat in an S60 as most won't fit--there just isn't enough room.
