chipping the V70

Post by blenheimpalace »

I just got a chip upgrade for my 95 850 turbo. Oh my!!!!! Does it zoom now. The dyno test showed about a 50 hp increase.

I got my ECU socket soldered so I can always swap out the chip to a better one in the future or when I sell the car, can put the old chip back in.

I researched several chipping companies (thank you Matt!) and finally
I went to www.speedtuningusa.com. Olie was great. A real gentlemen.

the whole thing cost me $325.00. I highly recommend this Austrian born guy, he knows the whole upgrade thing well.

I highly recomend him to anyone wanting more power for their Volvo.

You had a dyno test? How much $ was it, if I may ask? And how's the car after a few days of owning the new chip? :D

No, I did not get a Dyno test. However, the power increase is most notable! The surge, especially before the turbo kicks in, is much more powerful than before I swapped the chip. And after the Tubo kicks in,....well, lets say a smile does not do justice to describe my face!

The web site charts for my (95, turbo wagon) shows increase from 220 hp (stock) to 275 hp (chipped). After having driven it now a couple hundred miles, I believe it.

I hope to drive my Volvo until it dies (hopefully 300k or more....)

give them a try/call. Ask for Olie. He'll let you know whatever you want.

I considered the $ 325 money well spent. Even though my wife just rolls her eyes at me about the whole thing. But hey, SHE drives a 99 Saab 95 turbo! (she gets all the fun, Ha!)

Ah very nice... I've read that chippers can easily remap the fuel/air curve to provide more pre-turbo pull. And also fix that damn flat spot between 3-4k RPM.

And $325 is roughly half of what IPD charges for their chip. That's a killer price. (I know it's more complicated than just price and that IPD has been in business for x years etc...)

Did your guy recommend a larger exhaust to compliment the chip?

Off topic: I lived with my family (growing up) in Phoenix (the 'four corners'), MD, north of Towson. Great place to grow up :)

As for the exhaust, He actually asked me if I wanted a more powerful upgrade than what I was planning on buying, and I told him as long as I didn't have to do any other mods (exhaust, intakes, etc). He then recommended to stick with the chip upgrade that I ended up buying.

off topic: Phoenix huh? Wow! I live 4 drives off sweet air rd. on Blenheim Road...(hence the log-in handle). Been here for 9 years.

How long you been in Seattle area?

i got my chip put in last monday and oliver was nothing but helpful....i highly recommend using his product. there a 2 choices for the chip the first level is a less powerful one which i guess you decided to go with which puts your turbo up to about 14PSI. i on the other hand went with the more powerful upgrade which pushes my turbo to 17PSI. i made that choice because i already have a manual boost controller in there and was already pushing 14PSI and hitting fuel cut. when i got the chip put in he told me to lower the boost back to stock until i got my gauge in to make sure i wasnt over boosting. but since im such a liberal person with my car my boost is back up around 15 with the chip in and its kicking harder then it ever has and not cutting when it used to......my gauge should be in the car next week and ill be pushing 17PSI and hopefully about 270 BHP (others mods not mentioned). when i get my gauge in and my car up on the dyno i will be sure to come back and post results.....good luck with chipping choices
