2004 XC90 -TC6 - Transmission problem
We own a 2004 XC90-TC6 with only 63,000 miles and our transmission just went out. Does anyone have any advice on how to approach the repair on this? I have read that it can cost $4000 - $5000 for this repair and it seems as though a lot of people have had trouble with this model and the transmission going out. If anyone has any advice I'd appreciate it. I was so looking forward to getting rid of this car but it looks like we will be stuck with it for awhile now. Thanks

Im sure you have read that this is a sad situation for any owner of an 03-05 XC90 T6. The transmission just isn't strong enough to handle the power/weight combination that it is asked to support. The T6 makes alot of torque and it weights alot, which means the trans takes a beating.
What is even worse is that when the trans goes bad, it sends metal shavings all through the cooling system. Which means when you go to replace the doomed trans, you also HAVE to change the radiator, oil cooler, and all lines that connect those together. Otherwise the metal in the lines could contaminate the new trans and cause it to fail. It is very sad news for the owners of these car.
