Have had mine for 3.5 years now, and it was my first car. I'm really enjoying the 940s but I think the P80 will stay in daily driver duties

I really like them.

Hi,matthew1 wrote: ↑04 Aug 2022, 18:31 I owned my 850 for 17 years. It was my only car the entire time.
I should have never sold it. I have a few blown discs in my lower back, and working on cars can be very painful the next day, and I was just done. It was a decision fueled by those painful days... never make a car decision based on pain/emotion, I know now. Damn it.
If you notice I don't speak much about it, it's because I'm angry at myself for selling it, and getting this out isn't easy. I need to get over it, and this is me trying to get over it. Sorry about the rant/over sharing.

Sorry to hear that Matt. I know the feeling though, i hated to get rid of my old Hyundai it was easy to fix no OBDII, i fixed it nearly 100 percent myself, and i could park that thing ANYWHERE it was small enough to fit in the smallest parking spaces. I went to places that had no parking space left and still found a parking space because i could park it at the end of a normal parking isle and it would not stick out much, so nobody ever bothered it. 4 cylinder gas mileage didnt hurt either.
Long gone now.
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Hello,
Interesting thread hearing about other peoples experiences.
I had my 1998 v70 non turbo FWD since April 2nd, 2015 that's a bit over 6 years.
Since i first got it i put about $5000 USD into it for various repairs, That's about $833 per year average.
Funny thing is, when i got the car it had a bit over 194k miles on it, now it's less than 198k miles. That's 4k miles over 6 years so that's an average of 667 miles per year. So i dont drive it much, yet it still cost me about $5k in repairs. 4000 miles and $5000 USD comes out to an average of 80 cents per mile not including gas! That sounds like a lot but maybe some other members here can share their costs that would be interesting too.
Gas, extra, about $150 per year based on 15 mpg and $3 per gallon except for this past year at a bit higher cost for a gallon.

Bought my first P80 in 1998 at a year old a V70 T5 stick shift. Absolutely marvelous car and only sold it due to move from UK to Canada. It was bought on the back of one brother having a 92 850 GLT and then a 97 V70 NA. Another brother had a 98 C70 for a while but had many electrical issues with it and sold it.
Bought a 93 850 GLT for our daughter for her first car. Great car and at it's best just before sale. Regret selling it (like Matthew). Young guy had it for about 9 months before hitting black ice and wrote it off.
Next was a 98 V70XC bought at auction. Terrible car initially but eventually fixed and my son's first car. Sold it to a friend who needed a car and our son got his mums 06 XC70.
Then THE V70R. Had that about 12 painful years and 10's of thousands of $$ spent on it in parts and mostly my labor. Still have that as can't afford to sell it!!
Next was a 97 850 SE NA sedan as a retirement project. Lovely car after about $2500 spent on it and a lot of time. Now in California with my niece as her first car. Still has it 6 years later!
Last one was a 00 V70 SE NA. Again about $2800 spent on parts and many hours. Didn't really need another car but my buddy did. He still has it 4 years later and loves it. Another I regret selling.
When finally sorted they are great cars. Problem is having the money and time to bring them back from the brink as no one here maintains them.
Now helping others as it is cheaper than working on my own. A 98 V70 SE NA and now a 97 850 GLT.
Oh, almost forgot the 96 850 NA base I bought over the internet in Scotland for my parents after their much loved 240 sedan bit the dust.
That was their last car and they really loved it. The local dealer shop foreman looked after it for my parents.

19 or 20 years. The car was fabulously new, clean, safe and surprisingly powerful then, and though it's no longer new it's still a great car -- my driving preference for a long land voyage. My child's peers consider it vintage and 'cool' now in part because of the age and the unusual headlight wipers.
1997 855 GLT (Light Pressure Turbo) still going strong. Previous: 1986 240 GL rusted out in '06, 1985 Saab 900T rusted out in '95, 1975 Saab 99 rusted out in '95, 1973 Saab 99 rusted out in '94

The headlight wipers are what I get comments about, too. Personally, they annoy me a little because they don't seem to fully return to their horizontal resting spot very well, and I don't find them all that useful.
