Good point Firefox! I have several ABS modules of different variants. I can't test them as I don't have the relevant vehicles. I normally consider them as cores only. I save them up and ship some to Matty from time to time to help his stock as he has been very helpful to me and friends of mine over the years which has been much appreciated.

Thanks for nothing...another $200 spent, one for TRACs, one for STC ( I have two 1999s with each)FireFox31 wrote: ↑02 Jan 2023, 16:58 Tangential question: Should we buy spare ABS modules in case Midwest ABS stops serving the community? It certainly can't hurt if they aren't pricey. If you do get another P80 project you would have a spare on the shelf for troubleshooting, if nothing else.FireFox31 wrote: ↑02 Jan 2023, 16:58 Tangential question: Should we buy spare ABS modules in case Midwest ABS stops serving the community? If budget is an issue, and you catch Matty at the right moment, he sometimes sells 'blems' if he has one in stock. They usually have mangled cases.

I have had a couple of Matty's 'ugly' case units. They worked just fine and you can't see then anyway, especially on a turbo engine. I got these for friends on a budget and they were over the moon happy because of what they had been quoted to replace them at repair shops.
Great guy and great service!

That is the same as what I do. I pull them and send them to Matty. Well I used to but the junkyards here have now doubled the prices so I can no longer do this. I still have about 4-5 kicking around I think.

I have a blemished unit from Matty and it's working great. I think his warranty is shorter on them though. Also, they're a bit buried on his site; dig around for the page which has them.
Oddly, Matty didn't put a sticker on the unit to show it was rebuilt. I wrote the date, mileage, and Matty's info on a small piece of paper and used quality packing tape to affix it. Like timing belt change stickers, the ABS module sticker is very helpful to know the car's history.

I found a “matching” module on the shelf the other day. Remember I picked it off a super nice but rear ended C70 convertible in some wacky mint green metallic color because I needed the abs pump. Forgot they didn’t need to be mated to the car so I’ll try it out before getting in touch with midwest.
Junk yards around here have gotten way more expensive than when I started going there. Prices go up, 50% off weekends became 40% off weekends and then they stopped it all together when Covid arrived. Drew too many people they said, not a word of starting it up again now that covid seems less of a threat. Always went to LKQ yards, must be other yards where you pull parts yourself. Might be cheaper who knows, but I rather buy from ebay now than visit LKQ.
EDIT: sometimes I even pulled parts to sell online to earn some extra bucks but it’s just not worth it anymore.
