2001 S60, vibration from transmission?

Ok, I took a good look at the axle-transmission nexus, and it looks fine to me. I would say there's a heavy 1/8" of space, less than 3/16", and there are no signs of fluid leakage.

I know that pic of the old and new axles looks alarming, but though it was hard to measure precisely, I didn't think there was significant difference in their overall lengths at the time, beside the shorter splined section that fits into the wheel hub. Once I determined that, I decided to go ahead with the installation, figuring I still had adequate penetration to transfer power to the wheel.

I've only done local driving this past week, and the vibration at those speeds has been negligible. I'm sure at highway speeds it will surface again.
