AGM battery in wagon sits in the trunk, never sees any heat and lives a very long life. Mine died after 11 years of use, and I think I shortened it life a lot a few years ago when I did a 270 spin after hitting some trees and a boulder. No maintenance, no charging, no nothing, it just worked all those years.

I spent $230 on a new AGM battery in AutoZone. Will last another 10+ years.

Battery in a wagon in the southern heat zone can get extreme heat from inside the vehicle. Your mileage may vary.

Compare battery Cold Cranking Amps (CCA), price, warranty. Warranty for 3 years or better is good. Some offer no cost replacement, but most prorate your replacement cost based on months of use. Typically you are better off paying more, in my opinion.
Buy were you can get the warranty honored, not someplace with stores far away.

Battery life depends a lot on the service conditions. Not too hot, not too cold, not over charged, and not drawn down too low. The charge system must also be in good condition to get good battery life.

How long do batteries last down south? My brother in AZ says three years tops. Ouch. Just replaced my P2 battery at 10 years

I typically get 3 to 5 years in my vehicles in southern Oklahoma. I do not buy the cheapest batteries available. They all park outside. Your mileage may vary.

Best bang for the bucks:
- Costco ---> Interstate L3, L5 etc...$120 or so.
- Home Depot carries Exide for similar prices.

Similar batteries at AutoZone, Advanced Auto etc...Add another $50! It is a ripoff at the Auto parts stores...

I’ve done well at NAPA. I had one go bad after too many discharge cycles which was replaced 2 years old at no charge. Three of the cars have NAPA. My VAG cars have VW batteries in them , I do notice they run 10-15 years vs aftermarkets. Can’t remember what’s in the money waster

my sister in AZ says batteries don't last in that heat, 2-3 yrs.

I bought mine at O'reily auto parts 6 yrs ago, don't know what it is but its starting to slow down. $200.
the car starts so quick i barely get a chance to listen to it crank, maybe i'll get another or so.

Volvo up in Canada uses Interstate batteries. That is all I use. A buddy has used Costco batteries, but not sure who they use up here or if they use the same brand in the US.

As you are in CA, unlike us, you don't need a huge battery, but just whatever is the standard for a P2.

Costco batteries here come with an 8-year warranty and are typically cheaper than other retailers. Despite how much I loathe entering a Costco it is worth it to purchase batteries there.
