Re: 1994 850 - New Volvo Owner no start condition
Ok, I got a good fuel pump in there and it's much better, within spec. Still have no spark. As mentioned above I tested the voltages coming into the cam sensor and they seemed to be good. Crank sensor showed 296 ohms which I read is within spec (200-400). So if the cam sensor is good, crank sensor is good, that leaves the coil and possibly the PCM?

Good news, I got spark!
Today I went to the junkyard and they had two 850s. I pulled both fuel pumps, two crank sensors, one cam sensor, two coils, one fuel pressure regulator, and some super clean wagon tail lights which I needed.
I swapped one of the used pumps in and got plenty of fuel pressure but it doesn't sound happy at all.
Since I had fuel now and verified the injectors were pulsing I moved on to spark. I replaced the cam sensor and noticed the one I took off was new. I replaced it with the used one anyways to see if I had any change. Still no spark.
I moved to the coil which also looks to be new. I installed an old one from the junkyard and that fixed my spark issue. I put it all back together and it runs now!
I still need to do a full tune up, timing belt (not sure when it was done last), and a very deep cleaning. The check engine light, track light, and ABS light are all on so I'll check those codes later on.
Excited to get it going and thank you all for the help.

nice one!glad you got it running and if you take pics make sure to show what type and location of the abs as it can lead you down a rabbit hole reading codes etc as you can read in my posts ive been down the hole and turns out its often nothing to do with the abs system on mine after shitloads of work chasing codes the 2 things i found properly broken both switch the abs warning light and only 1 gives a code on mine that was true, the first thing to check is on the servo/booster under master cylinder is a round plastic sensor this is the brake position sensor and on mine and several other threads here you find the connectors that once was all soldered on have broken and the small circuit board inside is now in the bottom and not attached to its power source if you have a soldering iron its an easy fix just gently prise off the end after cutting the ring of sealer and just solder back the board to the obvious broken joint add a little sealer when its back together and with luck that evil light will go out,i have no idea why my particular case the code was absent for the most broken bit!good luck and keep us in touch,peaceAlexjordan22 wrote: ↑06 Oct 2023, 20:07 Good news, I got spark!

Well done! Duke has been down the ABS route and may have finally got to the bottom of it (I hope!).
Good luck with the servicing!
Neil.

Thanks for the information Duke. Once I get it running well I'll start to track down the gremlins like ABS. I'm sure i'll be reading all of your posts about it once I get to it!duke1 wrote: ↑07 Oct 2023, 06:46nice one!glad you got it running and if you take pics make sure to show what type and location of the abs as it can lead you down a rabbit hole reading codes etc as you can read in my posts ive been down the hole and turns out its often nothing to do with the abs system on mine after shitloads of work chasing codes the 2 things i found properly broken both switch the abs warning light and only 1 gives a code on mine that was true, the first thing to check is on the servo/booster under master cylinder is a round plastic sensor this is the brake position sensor and on mine and several other threads here you find the connectors that once was all soldered on have broken and the small circuit board inside is now in the bottom and not attached to its power source if you have a soldering iron its an easy fix just gently prise off the end after cutting the ring of sealer and just solder back the board to the obvious broken joint add a little sealer when its back together and with luck that evil light will go out,i have no idea why my particular case the code was absent for the most broken bit!good luck and keep us in touch,peaceAlexjordan22 wrote: ↑06 Oct 2023, 20:07 Good news, I got spark!

The fact that your local J/Y had any 850s is a minor miracle. If their pricing is reasonable, see if those donor cars still have ABS modules, you'll need a small torx socket, you might get lucky and find one that has been repaired already; broken solder joints is a known issue.
Get a fresh fuel pump gasket for the next round trip, I like to use Blue Box Volvo there, 9141498.
Since you're new to our little world, a friendly warning: avoid anything with the word URO in it.
Congratulations on rescuing another 855, let us know how it goes.
