I bought a cheap tool that came with a flat par and square on one end and a plastic grip on the other. Included was something that looks like a sardine can key made of a stiff wire and a straight section on the end. This is to lock into the small hole on the tensioner and on the tensioner body once you have expanded it to allow you to remove the belt. Works well, was cheap when bought many years ago!
