What is the seatbelt for ?
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Hey thanks for all the replies, very helpful.

My main concern is not that the bag will not open, I could put up with that because I drive safely and slowly (ha ha) and take back roads most of the time going 25mph.

My main concern is the material used to make the bag. Will it have cracks in it after 30 years. If there is a crack in the bag (or other leak) what happens to your face when it tries to blow itself up, using what I would guess is hot gasses from an explosion. Does the hot gas shoot right out at your face and eyes.
.
Hope auto makers set aside some airbags for future testing. Otherwise, we are the test bed or death bed lab rats as in the case of Takata's. As for the hot gases, they escape through vents so unless there is shrapnel in the explosion nothing should cause the bag to separate. Most the gases are expelled through the vents. Pretty confident the science behind the longevity of air bag material is in the bag.

Someone pulled an illegal left out of a gas station in front of my old 1998 S70 NA with 260k roughly on the dash. Was a rainy day and brakes with ABS wasn't enough to stop in time. Hit the corolla going about 20-30 mph? Really good impact that totaled both cars, and all the airbags went off fine. We both were okay.

My 1994 has a sticker in the door jam for 2004, 1998 for 2008, and 2004 for 2014 - but Volvo apparently extended that to "lifetime of the vehicle"
I don't think they meant for them to last 30+ years, though, judging by the interior plastics.
I love that you have a car named “ Apollo 13”
