Hardware on the p2 platform is a lot better than the p80, the fittings are pretty easy to loosen and get the parts off

I gave up. AC evacuation is $80-100, recharge is about $120. Purchasing evacuation pump, storage cylinder, leak detector sniffer will be around $500 for Vevor or similar brand. Not filling like breathing R134a or releasing it into atmosphere..plus I guess not filling like doing it myself as well(midlife crisis I guess). So made appointment with dealer in a week and let them do it. I rather work some overtime at my job now .

There are times when it is just easier to let someone else take the strain! I do as much as I can myself, but there are still occasionally work I will take the car to the dealer to tackle for me. Often it is because I don't have the specialist tools and the cost is crazy to buy for a one off use.

It still pays to have it evacuated and buy the gauges and pump. You can use the pump to evaluate runny noses and do tattoo work , too

I hear you abscate. Your words are full of wisdom and common sense. I am currently dealing with multitude of home projects which effectively outperform my 3 volvos, prius and f150 in being a money pit. It was hard to me to justify purchasing all necessary tools for this work especially given that most of my other fleet is running r1234yf. I am hoping to put aside some money to ask "santa" to buy me top don phoenix elite or at least kingbolen 10 scanner for Christmas. I feel like scanner might save me more money and be more useful than ac equipment(I would need to invest around 1k+ in order to do it correctly, plus storage space for all that, plus time...) if understand i will pay around $600-700 for this. But i will not do it myself, guys at volvo will hopefully flush the system, test with nitrogen, will fill system with new pag oil and new o-rings & shrader valves. (Hovewer from economical stand point I should got rid of this car 100k ago, but i like my heritage badge too much, almost as much as my seat comfort)

I have clone of vida, clone of TIs, general obd reader innova, and icarsoft volvo/Saab version. My main issue with Vida that it "cuts" at 2016 and I can't access late year 2016 and 2017 xc70 and xc60 P2. Icarsoft is of decent help, but at times it requires multiple attempts to connect to those years as well. I would like to have 10 inch screen with opportunity to have bidirectional control and intuitive design(Tis and Vida are anything but intuitive), plus opportunity to easily graph data pits.

Got my car back from the dealer yesterday. Had a "abscate was right" moment paying $800 for ac compressor replacement, but after driving entire day today with 75F inside while outside was 95F I got better. New Behr compressor works amazingly well and very quite. Appears to be exactly the same as original unit. I inspected original unit and found that gap was in spec, coil resistance similar to new unit. So i am thinking that my diagnosis/assumption of weak coil which was failing during heat/work was right. Sure I had a moment " I could do it myself, just release r131 into atmosphere and connect vaccuum pump after and recharge " , but it would be wrong and I would not be able to flush the system with nitrogen, etc..plus I got 3 hours with family and kids.
