ABS rear sensors - anyone got a spare? - 97 850 AWD + 98 V70 AWD/V70XC

Just adding to this as I’m now in exactly the same situation with my 1996 Volvo 850 AWD which is the only 1 of the 5 originally sold AWDs in Ireland left on the road.

As some of ye have noted Volvo 9442043, the complete Y-shaped rear ABS sensor/harness assembly for the AWD, is no longer available from Volvo and appears to be sold out worldwide in the aftermarket.

I’ve now contacted GCP (Genuine Classic Parts) today 08-September-2026 directly asking them to investigate putting 9442043 back into production. They confirmed to me that the part has been discontinued by Volvo and that the aftermarket is sold out worldwide.

They suggested possible workarounds, including splicing suitable FWD sensor heads onto the original AWD harness, finding NOS Standard Motor Products ALS571, or sourcing a used AWD/V70 XC harness.

However, I’ve gone back to them asking them to specifically investigate a new production run of 9442043. This is an ABS safety-related component and, in my case, the lack of availability means I cannot get the car through its NCT here in Ireland.

If anyone else here needs 9442043, could you reply and say how many you would realistically buy if GCP reproduced it?

I’m happy to collate the numbers and send them back to GCP as evidence of actual demand. I’d personally buy several.

It would be a shame to see otherwise good 850 AWD/V70 AWD cars being taken off the road simply because this one component has become unobtainable.
