The plug of carbon/nasty oil that was in my oil seperator was not all that solid, so I could defintely see how seafoam would eat into it. However, I worry that seafoam could also eat the rubber/plastic parts of the PCV system when used full strength in there.

The trick is to run it.
Besides the usual Seafoam process, after the initial 1/2 to 1 hour of "blowing it out", change the oil and drive it for 50-75 miles.
Do it with 1/4 tank (or less) of gas, THEN fill it up to dilute it even more before the drive.
I haven't heard of any damage to any engine's internal parts when done properly.
This stuff and others like it have been around for 60-70 years or more, they wouldn't still be on the market if they destroyed internal parts

I am most definitely looking forward to running a treatment or two of Seafoam in my Torino later this month. I expect to make a huge mess of smoke so I'm going to do it on a county road outside of town. Then when I'm done, I plan to rebuild the carburetor and change the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor (have all but the wires to do all this so far, and I'm one RockAuto order away from that). The car is so deserving of SOMETHING after it has been so abused and neglected by the previous owner.
I suppose Seafoam would be very useful in a 229K mile '93 850? That's the Volvo I'm looking at now, $800, in Austin, and I think it would be a better commuter car than the Trans Sport P.O.S. I'm using now.

Just did a seafoam treatment today. As recommeded on the other post i removed the brake booster hose and used a bendable straw so you dont have to worry about over doing it. worked like a charm.
BE CAREFUL !! about using the vacuum tree. I cant say for certain this caused the problem but there was a post on here or VS about someone adding the seafoam at the vac tree and it all went into one cyl and hydrolocked his engine and caused serious damage.
I would suggest using the brake booster hose if at all possible..

I seafoamed my 850 last year, it was just under 300miles at the time. I remember reading that it was going to smoke alot when put through the intake. But when I actually did it I was amazed at the smoke... dark blue/black, I had the garage door open and such but had to jump into the cloud of smoke so I could get in the car and back out into the yard.
Took off up the road and continued to smoke for about 100yards. Did the same treatment on my buddy's crown vic with 200miles on it, and it only smoked about 10% of what mine did.
I guess it depnds how dirty your intake is. I didn't notice any improvements with seafoam, but knowing things are cleaner is good.
