Once these load bars are on, they are stationary- they won't move up or down... Whatever you have to tie down, etc., will have to fit over where they are. Hope this helps (the limitations of load bars vs. eurorails).

Thanks MIJ!
Those simple racks are so cool. Form follows function.
Simplicity in it's simplest form!
Thanks again for your seemingly endless knowledge of stuff!

MJ - i was given a pair of load bars off an 850 sedan. i was trying to put it on my '97 wagon, but couldn't figure how to close the outside door. the lock core is bottoming out on the internal components. i couldn't figure it out how to make it work. is there a step or trick i'm missing in the installation of these parts? thanks.

i actually have the thin rails listed above on my v70 thin rail.jpg (16.73 KiB) and they work great .. specially when you have to transport a hood!

Don`t forget to order the oem screws from volvo ( 6 of them about 1 buck a piece).

If you want it for bikes i would buy the ones which connect to the hitch of the car and use that. I find them much easier to load up to 3 or more bikes and keeps mud and scratches getting on the roof!

The other dealer item that is very useful for installing "pre-owned" rails is the sealing kit.
It provides all new rubber and trim parts that go between the roof and rails.
You can also buy the screw covers and clips seperately. Makes'em like New!

I just got a factory rack and crossbars from the junkyard for $40. Took all of the trim too including the stuff on the windshield edges. Half hour later I had the entire thing installed on my car. All of the bolt holes were there (under plastic blocks and sealant tape) Took the rack off of a 98 V70XC and put it on my 96 850. Good luck!
