Since I've made the decision to "Go all the Way", pulling the bullet will be done for major re-build. My desire is to get it to "run" before I wreck it and run copious amounts of fluids through her to purge as much badness as possible.
"Toast", well I had it running @ the salvage yard when I got her. The displacement of any water and to, and I must quote "Ozark", is to Pickle. :D
I will take her down and meticulously clean, restore and replace all
questionable and needed upgrade components to get my 400+ hp.
Rods are a given and was pulling the "Head" anyway for a Port & Polish and Manifold mating.(going w/ S60R exhaust manny)
Just want to make her run for "fogging" and a 10 gal. tranny flush.
As every part on this vehicle is and will be disassembled down to component level, then washed, cleaned, evaluated and lovingly rubbed by my greasy little hands, I shall "Eat the Toast" and make a new, fresh loaf of bread.
I don't know if your query is indeed reality, but I must feel it is moot. As to have gotten this chassis was my goal and the condition of her mechanicals were not a major concern since she'll be completely disrobed and then dressed like a Prom Queen. :P
When I get to the gory details, I will capture and post all the carnage.
I have been terribly in Love w/ this car ever since I saw the commercial for her back in 95'. Toast or not, she will prowl again for any and all posers w/ their BIG tail pipes and Eat them w/ "Butter & Jam"!
When served "Toast", I usually just eat them w/ Over easy Eggs.
Your input and prays will be greatly appreciated.

My $.02 on the manual vs. auto trans is this:

It's often the #1 thing 1993-1997 850 enthusiasts pine for, but is too much work for them to tackle.

You're already up to your neck in work. Why not make it a manual? At 400hp you're going to need a different or substantially strengthened Asin or other auto trans.

It may look and sound like "I'm up to my neck", when I actually see my self in the middle of the "Process".
This is were I find my Zen. As an Artisan, it's the "process" that is truly the "reward". And if you paid attention during those many hours of blood, sweat and tears, you'll never be satisfied at completion.
For nothing is ever complete and perfect is just a word.
When all around me are completely "Freaked Out", that is when I do my best work.
I see sub-assemblies comprised of components that all go together to make my vision. Simple.
Now Matt, you are worth more than $.02. And you are correct Sir!
For this car to truly be my vision, it must have a manual transmission.
I have been flip-flopping on this and you have called me out.
So it must be. Oh, by the way, do you happen to know anybody that has a manual transmission for sale, Cheap!
I've just decided to proceed w/ the complete disassembly of this bitc% & put her back together as expected by anyone who gets where I'm wanting to go.
Some have "been there" and "done that", but I having preferences for 2 wheel machines, have not.
So, watch me stumble my way to Nirvana, and please, try not to laugh.
Lets have some Fun and be Happy. :D
All input and prays are always greatly appreciated.

All I can say is be very careful - remember, mold can kill you. Wear a mask when working around anything that has been in a flood. Especially when scrubbing it down/cleaning it. The very act of scrubbing/washing often throws the mold into the air so it can be aspirated even easier. I got into this a lot when I went down to Mississippi to help rebuild after Hurricane Katrina - you can't be too careful with that stuff.

And along that same line, I'd say you need to total the seats completely. You can never be sure you got the mold out of the interior, unless you completely strip them and re-upholster them. But for your own health, Id say just total them and find something else - hell, with that amount of work, I'd say 5-points, Sparcos, and a roll-cage, personally....

This is an issue that I've given careful consideration to.
As this was "Flash" flood rain water, that was 1/2 way to dash, I have been watching all my interior stuff as I dry it out surrounding a dehumidifier.
My goal is to use as much of the original pieces, as these were part of the T-5R package.
If there is anything to total it would be the rear bench seat, as it was a sponge that I could not wring out.
I am grateful for your concern, and I will take the precautions to protect my Health.
But as I smoke a pack of cigarettes a day, I'm truly not doing "the right thing" and this is my choice. Please have no pity for me, and I'll do what is best considering the scope of this project.
Your input is wise and compassionate.
That Katrina muck was as bad as it could be. Having gone through many floods here in Saint Louis, I'm aware of the dangers from major flood waters. I feel this is not as bad as it may appear.
But perception is everything.
"I'd say 5-points, Sparcos, and a roll-cage"
Now your talking! Bring it :D
I would ask all that are watching, to give me your Christmas list.
Now we'll see who is naughty and nice.

WOW, this is one hell of a project you have started. As long as you take your time with is and you know what you are doing, I have no doubt that you will have it done and looking fantastic. I would like to get my hands on a 94+ 940 to build into a track car, but money is slowing me down.

Anyway, good luck with her and post pics as you go along.

Have just started a new job and time has been thin.
Still trying to cook up a recipe. I'm in need of a destination, but will try to be unique.
When after this amount of power one must be thick and solid.
400-440 hp w/ manual, that will be "beefed" up.
Please help me w/ the "Formula"

hey there, I have often thought about building a 400hp 850. And maybe someday I will. It's basically just a lack of money that holds me back.
Now, your wondering what the "recipe" is to build sucha beast. And since I have zero personal experience take my recomendation with a grain of salt. Im sure someone here will correct me or add I anything I miss.

I would tear the engine apart replacing crank bearings and seals, maybe even get the crank and block checked out or even blueprinted. Install aftermarket connecting rods as I hear this is a common high hp failure point. Along with pistons and rings that will achieve the compression ratio you are looking for. Also larger fuel injectors and a fuel pressure regulator. THen I would bolt ona 19G turbo and mate the engine to a 5spd manual tranny with a R clutch. Get some sort of 3" downpipe and cat back exhaust. Have your ecu custom tuned for your setup and upgrade your intercooler and all your boost hoses and vacume lines.
Im sure there are a lot of little things a person could also do to find more hp in the old 2.3 but from what I understand the above recomendations are pretty standard when it comes to increasing hp in the inline 5.
As far as where to actually buy these parts... I am sure there are lots of great products but I am not sure who sells the best. Have to do some asking around.
Good luck, and keep us updated! :)

Sir,
I find your reply quit humble as your "Recipe" is dead on the mark, I think you sent me a Mountain of Salt. :D
As I will be doing all of the labor (including Engine balancing and Head P&P) the money should be tolerable.
This is just a quest for something I saw on TV when this car was advertised in 1995'. Now that I have a T5-R chassis and the ability to make it better than stock w/ state of the art components, I just can't help myself.
I take my time when in the "Process" as that's were I prefer to be.
Up to my elbows in tools and parts, w/ a cig hanging on my lip and sweating blood and passion for the love of the game.
Thanks for your support and stay tuned to this station. :D

Im glad to hear that you are doing your own engine work. Thats what a project like this is all about , doing as much as possible yourself. Thats where the satisfaction is and thats what makes it fun.
Do you have much experience building engines? Or are u jumping into this as a first timer. Either way it's a great project.
Ive got a spare engine with 75miles on it collecting dust in the corner of my garage that is just itching to be put on the motor stand and tore apart, so i'll deffinently be tracking your progress once u get into the engine.
Just remember, when all patience are lost sit down smoke something have a drink and re think it. also a good time to take a pic lol
