Re: Dual exhaust for 98 V70 AWD

Post by Jellobmw »

I put the dual exhaust on my '98 V70R. I was happy with the looks, but unhappy with the sound. So I got a 12" long 1/2" drill bit and drilled out the inside restrictor on the driver's side muffler. Then I pulled out all the fiberglass packing inside that I could reach. Now the car has a nice deep throaty sound that is not overbearing.

But, if I was doing it over again strictly for performance, I would go with a single muffler on the driver's side and not the dual outlet. Less restriction, and less weight.

I have a 96' 850GLT and I wish I could hook that up to mine cause that looks dope mann!!! I like the looks of the 98' V70 AWD and was thinking about getting one for my wife when I sort out my career difficulties. Money is very tight right now and work is so slow it's not even moving. I sure like to dream though and one day I'll buy her one and have the chance to hook up that dual exhaust like yours.

Waltrip is not selling out of state (shipping) anymore, no exceptions
Too bad about Waltrip-their prices were outstanding. Suggest you call FCP Groton or IPD (see top of forum for ads).

I called my Volvo dealership and they do not show a genuine dual exhaust system. Some picture on Swedespeed shows a dual exhaust but if you look closely on the driver-side muffler, the tip is added on later. Unless its for older cars including '98, dual exhaust is not offered on a V70R AWD stock car. Still sourcing a Magnaflow muffler. If that fails, fabricate my own :)

Your dealer is an idiot
Ask them to look up the dual exhaust for a 2000 V70R
See what they say about this:

1. Volvo Dual Exhaust system for 98-00 AWD V70s:
- 9470703: muffler, R - +/- $276.42
- 8631696 : end pipe - +/- $65.99 each or 9470988 (alternate part, nearly identical)
- 9484490: frame, left with rivets (bumper exhaust trim piece) - $9.61
- 9169283: rim/frame, right press in, no rivets (bumper exhaust trim piece)
- plastic rivets

Mr. Jim is once again correct - Your dealer is an idiot! :P
Dual was STOCK on 2000 V70R's. Period.
And it'll bolt right up on '98 and 99 R's.
Many have also used it for XC's.

Honest. Really. No Foolin'.
