Have you tried Parts Gateway for either of the carbs? I use them a lot for Volvo and other parts. They act as agents for several new and used parts dealers who will contact you with price and availability. The service is always first class and prices are competitive.

What mileage is on the car and has the gearbox oil ever been changed?

Unfortunately I didn't feed you at Durham Miners' Gala as we are only 3 miles from Durham and everybody travels by Arriva.

Ah! Hmm. Mmmmm... Gearbox oil, you say? Now then, I must admit that, since changing from Land-Rovers to Volvos several years ago, I've kind of forgotten about gearbox oil. On an old Land-Rover, topping up the gearbox oil was an almost daily piece of routine maintenance, and with Fairey overdrive fitted it was necessary to carry a few pints of gearbox oil (as well as the usual gallon of engine oil) on any journey over 50 miles. I must admit I've been treating my Volvo gearbox as a "sealed-for-life" unit. Probably a bit optimistic of me, in retrospect. If it weren't raining outside & blowing a gale, I'd be poking about under my poor long-suffering Volvo right now. I guess I'd better procure an appropriate quantity of the appropriate oil, bang it in & see if anything gets any quieter. You know that whistling-kettle/lost-soul-in-Hell kind of whine that sometimes emanates from the gearbox on a 240? I've been living with that for years. But now there is a more sinister growling grinding grumbling kind of noise, intermittently.

How many ex-Police, PSV-licensed Volvo enthusiasts ARE there in Co. Durham?!The one I met was also a driving instructor. We parked our respective (Volvo) coaches nose-to-tail on double yellow lines. Any time members of the Constabulary came to move us on, they recognized this man as their former instructor & left us in peace.

I can't find any reference to changing the oil in a manual Volvo box but when I had my 740 it was making a growling noise and my friendly Volvo man told me to change the oil. The noise just about disappeared.

Now to the personal question. When I was senior instructor I ensured that all of the instructors were HGV and PSV trained as we were looking at more training of personnel due to the change in the law. As for me parking on yellow lines anywhere in County Durham, I wouldn't dare as there are too many of my ex-colleagues who would jump at the chance of giving me a ticket.
