Thanks for the link. I am about to pull the rack out of my 96 base model 850 and rebuild it myself.

I have been researching the removal process for a little bit now before I proceed. According to several place online that have instructions listed you need to use a support bracket on the top of the engine and lift the engine up slightly.

They list it in step one of the link below:
http://www.volvotips.com/index.php/850-2/volvo-850-s70-v70-c70-service-repair-manual/volvo-850-steering-system-power-rack-pinion-service-manual/)

I don't see anything about it in the instructions posted above at this link:
http://volvospeed.com/volvo_repairs_how ... rvice.html

and it sounds like gregandterra (who posted above) followed the volvospeed instructions listed in this thread.

Am I missing something in the volvospeed instructions where it says to support the engine from above? I have read through it pretty thoroughly.

Or am I stupid and I should know you have to install a support bracket on the top of the engine and lift it up slightly to take the load off the motor mounts no matter what?

I am hoping to get away with doing this job without using a top engine support bracket as I don't have one. I apologize if this is a dumb question or has been answered obviously somewhere before. I did just get off work and am a little sleep deprived.

Thanks!
