Sorry, I didn't mean to make you relive the nightmare :D
WTF, you got one built right after a long week-end of binge drinking or something. It's very "special"
As far as the upper strut mount goes, as far as I know they are all the same for any year XC90, so if they just have to know a year tell them 05
I work at a dealer so I don't usually go aftermarket, I won't be much help with an aftermarket source. When I did work at an independent, our parts man used to get things from a place called world pack. Not sure if they sell retail. The stuff seemed to be ok.
And hang in there with that car eventually it'll all be new!

IDK, most of the problems seem typical of a car that is about 10yrs old. The suspension does wear out after a while. I'm pretty sure you would have most of the same problems with any make of car; although the ETM is Volvo's fault, a little research would have helped a lot.

I would only use OEM parts for the suspension components. IPD sells some heavy-duty parts that I'd consider going aftermarket on, but apart from that, except for shocks and drilled rotors, I wouldn't get anything other than OEM. The suspension on mine's waiting a few months til I get all the annoying electrical bugs and the A/C taken care of.

My 2 cents anyway.

thanks guys,

i figured as much with the aftermarket parts. i've learned from previous euros that they can be pretty particular/sensitive to oem parts and consumables, and that the replications are usually junk. i really do like my car though. i got it to be a slow yet reliable safe snowmobile. it takes the opportunity of my stupidity behind the wheel from rearing its ugly head...at least until my driving record clears up. these cars are cult classics and those are the types of cars i like--ones with stories and legend. i can explain myself with my previous car selections and it will make sense to you all. 1. 1974 vw 1303 super(still own and always will), 2. 1990 audi 90 20v quattro--RIP, 3. 91 audi S2 quattro--RIP 4. 1993 audi S4 2.2 I5 20vt--RIP, 5. 2001 audi S4--someone elses girl now....and now my beloved volvo. writing that out really made me realize my path of automotive destruction. and my dream car--1997 porsche 993 gt2 evo ;)
