Alignment on Volvo 850 -- Specifications & Procedures
Re: Where are adjustment points for front alignment
in the two 850/v70 front ends i worked on, there were no eccentric bolts. there's just play in the bolt holes connecting the strut to the knuckle, that is where the camber was adjusted. I guess they just tighten the heck out of the bolts to keep the adjustment.
That's correct there is a small amount of adjustment at the bottom strut bolts. With those bolts in one can move the strut in or out slightly to get more or less camber. As the knuckle moves it changes the toe setting slightly, therefore an alignment is a good idea. On my cars I always set the camber as far neg. as it'll go, it maybe ends up -.25 degrees or so., then I don't have to worry about resetting the toe if I do upper strut mounts or a lower control arm. Besides, it corners better

But does that make your tires wear unevenly? That's really my main concern since I really don't feel any difference in steering or handling. Tires are expensive $$$$$ but the alignment adds antother 20% or so to the cost.
When I picked up the car today, they said the left rear was way out of alignment compared to the other three wheels. Don't know how that happened as I don't remember subjecting the rear to any significant trauma, but since they said the front wasn't badly out of alignment that makes me think that any play in my lower strut bolt when I reassembled it provided negligable effect.
