whoa wrote: Today, no work, but I did get fresh rubber from Costco. Potenza RE960AS -- the only tire they had in stock that fit my wheels, which are, oddly, 15-inch, and so take 195/65R15 tires. Their computer wouldn't let them sell me tires that are not on the list of OEM sizes, but they worked around it. Now I'm wondering what the story is behind these (Volvo) 15" wheels. Not the sportiest choice, and there's nothing on the original Volvo invoice about special wheels.
195/60-15 was a standard size on GLT models, and I think it was not uncommon for other cars to end up with them over the years, especially due to how common it was for people to bend the 16" wheels with the stock 205/50-16 tires. My T5 also came with 15" Cetus wheels, and the shop I bought it from indicated that they were likely changed after the previous owner bent a couple of wheels. I recently changed the car back to the original 16" Columbas - but with 205/55-16's. :)

My pcv is clogged and we cleaned the flametrap and discovered that this was a HUGE part of the problem. Cleaned it again today, and because of the fact that it is finally breathing the way that it should, it's sucking a lot of carbon deposits back into the flametrap filter.
Throw it away!!! There's really no point to it, even Volvo standard procedure for the PCV system even says to remove the flame trap screen from the car

Thanks! I have been curious about that and you have cleared it up nicely. Yes, they're Cetus wheels. One good thing is that with such a high sidewall it's a very quiet ride. Especially compared to the old tires, which had about 1/16" of tread left  .

Next weekend: DIY alignment attempt, odometer gear, and a pollen filter if I can find a housing (ah-choo).

I'm late to the dance but I put new rear brake pads on my daughter's 944 on Sunday - the dang thing still won't start though. Buying it for her was a bad idea since she will likely never top 5 ft in height and she can't see over the hood. As she has lost enthusiasm for the car I have lost enthusiasm for working on it.

Boy do I have a list of stuff to do on the Volvos now that the weather is getting nice.

Today I added Seafoam to the gas tank - will do the intake next and crankcase closer to the next oil change. I also replaced the donut spare with a full size wheel. Fits quite nicely I must say, and I'll feel much more confident with that on our frequent trips than the donut.

Today I took care of the axle ping my car had. I replaced my S60R axle bolts with the ones from a XC90.

Tomorrow, ProSport boost gauge install.
