It will drain the residual power in about 15 minutes. Make sure you have your radio code before disconnecting the battery. You can also drain the residual by using the brake pedal to force the brake lights to use up the last of the power.

I'd suggest a change in the procedure of reconnecting the battery cable. Volvo's recommendation for the SRS-equipped cars is to put the key in II, exit the vehicle, reconnect the battery cable and not re-enter the car until the SRS light is out or has been on for over a minute. This is to reduce the risk of an airbag firing on you when you turn the key, and to ensure that the computer network (on the '99s and newer) comes up properly. On '99s and newer this procedure is required, and it is recommended on SRS-equipped Volvos up to '98.jablackburn wrote:As for disconnecting the battery, what I do is pull off the negative cable, then insert the key and turn to start.
