Only downside is viewing the page eats up 9 megs of bandwidth per view...not sure if MVS is close to its bandwidth limit but this could get expensive .

If you can believe it, bandwidth is actually not close to being a bottleneck on the MVS server, even with massive Volvo Forum topics like this. It's memory, which defines how many simultaneous users can be viewing content. After memory, it's disk space.

Memory is the one thing I monitor and fight with -- er... manage -- constantly.

I know this is probably a stupid qestion, but to remove the trans, do you HAVE TO remove the engine? I need a new transmission, and if it's as simple as it seems, i may just replace it myself.

No. You can take the wiring harness off on the top of the trans and drop the subframe down on the drivers side and bring it out that way, leaving the engine in. Ozark Lee is doing it this way on his car, he took some pictures so when he gets them up you can see how its done.

sweet. I was reading the PDF manual, and was confused about that. Now just to find a trans that will work in my car that DID NOT come from a 93. local indy told me they had lots of problems with the 93 trannies.

I'm just about to jump off the diving board and into the engine... ...but I am having some difficulty finding some of the parts...particularly those without part numbers.

I tried calling a few parts places including the dealer and they didn't know for sure what part I was talking about.
I colored the questions in green below, I hope you still remember.. .

Things Needed

• • Parts: my dealer charged me $140 for all the below including tax; FCP Groton didn't sell the bolts (you can try calling) but with shipping buying from them would've saved me $35 on the seals alone. They sell OEM seals I believe. You will need :
  • o SIX (6) torque converter to flexplate bolts (979671)
    In addition I replaced the following
    o Rear Main Seal Volvo #9458178
    o TEN (10) flexplate to crankshaft bolts, needed if replacing RMS (Volvo item 1275375)
    o TWO (2) Transmission output axle shaft seals Volvo #6843112
    o Transmission pump seal sealing the torque converter Volvo #9495017
  In addition you will also most likely need to replace (for good measure)
  • o O-rings for oil-cooler (transmission) lines
    o O-rings for heater-core lines
    o Oil-pan o-rings (Part number please..and how many?) and gasket compound (if replacing the oil pan o-rings)
    o Axle nuts(What size 20mm or 22mm and how many?)
    o Upper torque bar bolts

Upper Torque Arm bolt/nut - see attached pic. I can't figure out a part number. Really you could probably re-use it, but it's a angle torqued bolt so it stretches.

just getting ready to pull an 850 engine out. chilton says you can pull motor only without trans, but i dont see how. not enough room to clear. is it best to just pull them both?
