Do you know of any problems with the ECM. Will you have constant trans codes or mil codes. I have to rebuild my motor and a 5 speed would be awesome....

1998 of that model has no electronic "marriage" of ECM to the other modules on car. Your 2001 has an iron clad marriage with a pre-nuptial agreement, durable power of attorney, and an unalterable will.
If you choose to do a manual it will take custom ECM tuning, adding pedal assy., clutch pedal sensor and its wiring, center console pieces and shifter plus cables, and reverse light wiring all the way to rear of the car. I'm sure there are other things too.

Guess I Will Stay With The Auto, Thanks Jimmy Had No idea it Would Be That Involved. What Is The Best Source For A Complete Engine Rebuild Kit?

Looking to put 2005 R motor and standard tranny in 2001 70xc wagon Awd. Is this possible, Know need to get clutch pedals and shifter.
does AWD mount up to standard tranny ??

Look for an M66 trans from either a 2004-7 S60r or V70R, or a later S40/V50 T5 AWD (MT), they will be set up for the angle gear etc...
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)
