Where does it get its power from? Is there a starter or coil or something?

The fuel pump relay. I'm not sure what you are asking in the second question.

The relay appears to work, when I touch it I can feel it click and I pulled it and hotwired the pins as instructed and no change. The car appears to turn over just fine, just won't start.

You need to verity that the replacement fuel pump actually works by hot wiring it directly to a battery. If it runs and builds pressure with a battery directly powering the pump then you will need to start tracing the wiring back to find the fault. We have full schematics under the repair database tab which lists the wire colors, junction points, and ground points.

The circuit problem could be anywhere so it is a matter of methodically testing each wire segment in the circuit as well as the connectors until you find the problem spot. Wiring problems are usually very easy to fix - once you find the problem. Finding the problem can take hours and hours.
