I have had this problem for over a year and a half and can not say how glad I am that you discovered how to fix it.

Here's how it went down:

I went to unplug the MAF, but couldn't because of a small metal wire.

Read up on the MAF in the repair manual, got some pliers, pushed the wire off, unplugged the MAF, lost the wire under the car or in the engine bay somewhere.

Read up on the MAF ohmeter check, performed ohmeter check. Sensor checks out fine.

Started the car with the MAF unplugged- it ran rich without a problem. No dying.

Plugged the MAF back in, started the car. Car started and died.

So now, to find an air mass sensor. FCP Groton has them for $129 - 10% discount is 116 + shipping.

Note: I tried going around the block with the air mass sensor unplugged. The gas was so rich, I could smell it while driving. I made it around one corner when the car died completely. I tried starting it again and it did, but as soon as I applied the gas, it died again. I pulled it to the side, plugged the sensor back in, and rode away without a problem.

I have a similar problem, code 121. I would like to replace the MAF, however, the MAF's that I have found are six pin socket/plug. My 1992 240 has a four pin plug.

The car was a Swedish delivery vehicle.

Does anyone have an idea of how to approach this dilema?

Thanks,

Jim
