The CV clip can also be a pain as well as removing the ball joint. I would replace it personally even though its a horrible job. I noticed that the CV boot on the driver side looks like its perishing. I will probably have to do the same thing as you sooner rather than later. Yes I'm out of a job as well ;-)
PB Blaster FTW!
And if you want an axle that last's?
Raxles.com supplies NEW cv's in their rebuilds
and a truly hearty boot filled with Amsoil grease...

Finding an adhesive that would even bond to a boot
would be pretty impressive, and that adhesive would
also need to be very flexible.

I used to have a Renault and had the boots replaced a couple of times. This involved using a jig
to stretch the 1 inch opening over the CV joint and sometimes they would tear so the factory trained mechanic would always
cut lengthways down the boot then glue the incision back together...held for about 9 years, I reckon it was a black Loctite product. If the rest of the boot is OK I'd certainly give it a try and maybe a dab of Shuegoo or Amazing Goop http://www.eclecticproducts.com/all_purpose.htm
