I have an '04 2.5T AWD and I believe I'm hearing the same ticking coming from the center of my dash. It does sound clock-like and will cycle for about 30 seconds to a minute. I believe, in my case at least, it has to do with the A/C unit adjusting the internal vents from either dash, console, or floor venting. I've played around with the A/C settings and that does seem to effect the cycling of the ticking noise.
