I have a 98 v70 with the exact same issue. I can not lock the vehicle until this is resolved. I tried the WD trick with no results. It used to be if I put the key back in the ignition, put the car in neutral and then "firmly" back into park, that would do the trick. But no more.

There is actually 2 tiny little switches on the door lock mechanism that trigger when the door is closed. These switches eventually fail. For 98 and older, you can remove them and solder on replacement switches but as I discovered with my 99, I had to replace the entire locking mechanism to fix the problem.

IIRC, one switch operates the red safety light in the door jamb
and the other shows a ground to the central locking module ( chime ).
'98 V70 R - Well Equipped for Life Up North... ;)
