Re: Replacing o2 sensors?
This forum has plenty of diagrams. Try following each hose, paying particular attention to the elbows. They tend to rot out more often. If the hose crumbles, or leaves a nasty deposit in you hand, replace it.

Here's your first suspect - this is on the left side of the intake manifold between the PS pump and alternator.

Aside from that, look at anything going to the turbo, vacuum tree or intake manifold by the throttle body. You will have to remove the triangle-shaped piece of black plastic.
There really aren't too many vacuum lines; just check them all over like pkc said. There should be a diagram on your hood.

Has anyone tried the seafoam brand penetrate? It is non flammable and they claim it works even better after heating something up because it wont just burn off. I might get that instead of PB blaster when I get around to doing mine.

I used the Seafoam to help get a balljoint part off my Subaru. It worked very well I guess but I might have gotten lucky. PB always worked for me too.

OLd thread alert, but this seemed to be the best thread after Search for O2 sensor replacement...
I have 140k on my 1999 V70 T5 - I have seen advice to replace at 100k, and other advice that if you arent throwing codes then dont replace.
My mileage is down, so Im leaning towards replacement, in which case I will try jblackburns progression of methods above..

I realize this post is a little dated but, maybe my experience can help someone else... I make no promises but this is my story... My 99 v70 xc 's engine light came on the other day. I went straight to AutoZone to have the code read and they said either the front o2 sensor or the catalitic converter. I read on here that someone fixed theirs by creating a lean mix by removing a vaccuum hose for a few minutes. The lean mix burned hot and burned off the buildup on the o2; engine light went off. Rather then messing with hoses I decided I'd try running some high octane fuel. I filled my tank with premium feul and added an octain booster/cleaner. 40 miles later the engine light went off and no problems since. That $10 bottle of octane booster saved me (potentially) hundreds of dollars!

I have a 08 s40 and trying to replace o2 sensor. I bought the special socket 22 mm and it was too big I read after taking it back that that is the size to use could I have a smaller size or is the 22 mm socket the only one used for this model.
