Any opinions on a 2000 s80 Looks like they are lemons.

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

I own a S80 T6 and have had a litany of problems but lucky for me I’m a DIYer and have the resources to to keep her up. I hope you have a while because here’s all the things that went wrong (and I brought my car new) that would not go wrong on a lexus, BMW or Audi you go:1-transmission, 2-ABS module, 3-instrument cluster, 4-ABS module, 5-driver information module. I’ve seen my check engine light so many times I think it’s normal. But an Audi or BMW pal, you’ll save a lot of dough!!!!

OK here's the thing, any car that was originally marketed as luxury or suchlike will be expensive to maintain. Doesn't really matter who makes it. e38s amd e39s are prone to many of the issues Mark27 listed. It is fair to say that the S80's issues are probably more common in these areas, but to say that you would save a load of dough with a BMW Audi or Lexus is misleading. There's plenty of moneypits there too. Same rule regarding DIY'ing applys with the BMWs, Audi's and Lexus'. Heres some of the common issues with the Bimmers:

e38 and e39's crack their plastic radiator elbows: At best, a new rad needed. At worse your better half will be driving it when this happens
Watercooled alternators fail in the e39s. These are mega expensive to replace
Tranmissions are better matched than in the T6 S80, but just as expensive to repair or replace.
OSV valve failure, not a huge issue but an expensive job if you dont plan doing it yourself.

If you are looking for ANY kind of older "luxury" car. You have to pay to play, theres no way around it. Pay in time or money, the choice is yours, either way it's rarely cheap.

I learned alot. I have purchased the car for $4000 CDN 124,000 KM's on it.

Just have to tackle the ABS module and timing belt maybe.

'99 - '01 s80 are brilliant cars,,, but Very trouble prone. They're very sophisticated vehicles & you have to always do Maintenance maintenance MAINTENANCE at the dealer when due....
