Pumping Gas problem - 2000 Volvo S80

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

No guides I know of.
On S80 the canister closed valve is adjacent to canister by rear suspension in center. There will be two hoses to that electric valve and one will go to canister and the other to the filter.
The hose is hard plastic line and could be connected directly or use a section of rubber hose with the Oetiker pinch to secure clamps. Cut the pinched area to remove and use a normal clamp to re-install.
If it has no rubber section then the latch on the hose is an oval end you squeeze to make it round and it slips off. The end of pump will have the normal flanged end you find on so many fittings that accept rubber hoses but the end of the plastic hose will have an o ring on it to seal it and what holds it on is the oval plastic "latch" popping over that flange on the fitting. Squeezing the latch opens it up so it will pass by the flange to come off. If you can blow a lot of stuff out then you have found the problem if it seems clear then the cansiter may be the cause.
You have no other problems or codes?
Your fueling problem is there every time you fuel?

IF the temp of engine is above a certain level or if you have driven the car at a high engine load in the prior 6 minutes before you stop engine the ECM will elect to run fan to keep underhood temps lower. If the fuel tank testing was initiated when you idled at fuel pump before you turned key off the fuel tank pressure test could have started. If fan is afterrunning and the test is started when the key is turned off then the canister vent valve that is energized and closed for testing can be kept closed and it will not take fuel because the vapors can't go anywhere and fuel backs up in the filler and kicks off nozzle like it was full.
Cycling ignition switch fixes this condition but has no bearing on the vent filter being plugged.
If it is a continual problem it is filter or like you read, a plugged canister or plumbing to the canister.
If it is the other condition you may drive for years and not have the combinations of things occur again.
I had this happen to me just yesterday. Tank had about 3 gal left in tank but I couldn't put fuel into it since it kept kicking off the nozzle. After only about 1 gal, the fuel was overflowing and to the point was coming out. I didn't know what was going on. Never had that happen on any vehicle before.

Well, gassed up this morning and it seems that your explanation was the problem I was having. Thanks!
