A member of my car club got the xemo etm unit, and had nothing but problems afterwards. He ended up selling the car.

Im way more interested in what the dealer cost on this unit is.
I called the other dealership in my area and they quoted the same price.
Your friend may have had any number of other issues. That's not the point here.
The short story is, the OEM ETM design uses a concept that is doomed to fail, like the scratchy
volume knob of an old school radio. XeMODex replaced that part with "no contact", electronic sensor.
Then they worked around the "you gotta get it programmed by the dealer when you replace it" aspect
of the ETM, allowing anyone with good mechanical skills to be able to replace it easily.
Basically - They fixed what Volvo should have in the first place.

It's your money, but do yourself a favor and
study the subject YOURSELF before you buy.
( And XeMODex is a free phone call. )

Best of Luck.

Bej, Thats exactly what I told him. Im convinced he had other problems. He was convinced his ecu didnt like the xemodex.

Okay, went and picked up my car from the dealership, cost was $1255 total..
etm part was $733. I suppose the tech misunderstood me when I asked is the 1200 estimate for the part?
Overall it wasnt a horrible experience.
Car is driving like a dream again. I have power, no stumbling, idle is strong and steady @ 850 rpm.
Next project is the Mass Air Flow, then on to the suspension.
If both my struts and shocks need to be replaced, and I only can afford to do one at a time, which should I do first?

You can buy a BOSCH boxed MAF sensor for HALF of what Volvo sells theirs for.
It's the same part.
The Volvo MAF sensor is made by Bosch

Thats exactly what I did. Great minds... haha
and Im probably going to replace my shocks before my struts because I fear that there may be more than just the struts that need to be replaced. Im so relieved to have that etm out of the way though, its inspired me to get back into this car.
