I realize that your topic is 2 years and 7 months old, but I had to reply to you. I was using Google Chrome and typed in 1992 volvo 940 gl won't start no spark. I was teleported to matthewsvolvosite and, more specifically, to your problem in September, 2011. I read all the messages that you posted at the time. Your solution was right on the money. Many kudos to you. How did you diagnose that it was a malfunctioning 'crank position sensor'? I checked prices and got 4 quotes. O/L was 31.24, Auto Z was $58.00, Adv. Auto was $57.99 and local Volvo dealer was $104.00. At present, I have another 1992 Volvo 940 GL which I am using for parts. Ergo, before I purchased O/L, I removed the crank position sensor from my parts Volvo and checked the Ohm reading and it was 184 ohms. This was a good omen. I then removed the crank position sensor from my road worthy 1992 Volvo. I then installed the used crank position sensor. I began a serious pray to our Lord, turned the key and then thanked Jesus. It took me 2 days and much perserverance to get to this state. The local Volvo dealer did tell me approximately where this crank position sensor is located and the O/L site did show me a picture of the part. Again, many thanks and pass it on. Volvos Forever!!!
