Put the wheel on the ground and then get a big freakin pipe. Or a shop will spin it off for you with an impact wrench for cheap ($5) and then put it back so you can get it off.
Beware, the torx ones are also a PITA. I broke 2 socket wrenches on those little jerks.

As much as I like your idea of putting the Iron Pipe to the Right (see pic I posted above) and jack it up. The problem is: you may get the nut off or you may raise the whole car up!JDS60R wrote:Don't lower the car on it. Put the bar to the right and jack up the bar.
So, I always place the Iron Pipe in such a way that whether I loosen or tighten the nut, the Iron Pipe always goes downward.

My idea was for those without a cheater bar like the OP.
I personally use an air ratchet Ingersol Rand 1/2in with 625 reversing ft/lbs. It removes them all easily.

Just a guess, but they were probably replaced with aftermarket ones at some point. My original ones were shot at 128K.obayha wrote:Are all axle nuts 36mm?

Update: tried for a couple hours again last night: no progress.
I tried jacking the bar up, then lowering the car onto the bar on a jackstand. Nothing worked. I'm just going to take it to a shop and have them remove the nut, then replace it. I have a pipe that just a bit too small for the end of the breaker, which is oblong. Tried even to hammer the pipe into a similar shape, no dice.
My next trip to a hardware store I'll come out with a propane torch, I guarantee you.
That breaker bar was so warped from the weight I thought if something gave way something would go through a wall. I have a photo I'll post later. I had on safety goggles, heavy clothing, got out of the way as much as possible to where I thought the shrapnel would fly, and almost put on my hockey helmet and pads.

To others: I wouldn't assume what yours is until you measure it.

Just stating the obvious here...you did unstake it right? I have a $30 Kobalt impact that ripped thru that (since upgraded) but doing it by hand it probably would need to be unstaked before you twist it off.
Also I do own a 36mm Craftsman socket (Craftsman 36mm only comes in shallow 12 point), but my SK 36mm 6 point deep is a better fit. Not sure if you are using a deep or shallow socket but the shallow won't go all the way on the nut, and you risk buggering it up. FYI Advance Auto Parts "rents" deep axle nut sockets with 36mm in it (IIRC) for $50 but you get your $$ back when you return it.
In addition, you just need to go buy an iron pipe. Take your breaker bar with you to Home Depot and get one. They are fairly cheap.
