Still having issues removing battery

I am also having trouble removing the battery from my 1993 Volvo 850 GLT. I cannot figure out how to remove the plastic clip / clamp that holds the battery in place. I tried pushing it down thinking that would release it but to no avail. Can someone please tell me how I would take the clamp off?

Pull the plastic tab up. It will release itself then.

HI I am selling my Volvo 850 wagon 1997. I just put in a used battery I got a good deal on. I don't remember how the old one was held in there? All I have is two separate lip section holding it down in the rear? IS this enough? It seems over a bump the front of the battery could bounce up?

It has a plastic clip that just drops over that edge and holds the battery down. It’s a really clever design

If you can’t find it , it probably dropped down into the “ air guide” or lower engine cover

The black 'pointy part' fits against the side of the battery.

If you look along the side of the battery tray you will see notches along the front of it about every 1".

The battery should have a lip along the front and rear and also the sides around the bottom. You have to drop it in slightly tilted back toward the windshield to allow the lip to go under the lip on the back of the battery tray. Once it is under there, slide the battery toward the inner fender with the Vin plate on it to lock the lip of the battery on 2 sides.

The battery clip then rotates from the top downwards at the LH end of the battery viewed from the front of the car.

Why the heck am I writing this? Just watch Roberts Youtube how to. This is great. Once you get to about 1min 30 secs in you see how it fits.

Thanks! at 2:40 he actually shows how the clip comes out. See I thought it slid on from the side -- which didn't make a whole lot of sense becasue there isn't much room to thread it around from the side.

That’s such a simple brilliant design. I’ve fought so many metal corroded battery clamps that I appreciate this immensely.

Thevaftermarket ones from FCP are only a buck , too. I carry a couple spares but use a Volvo one at $6 because they deserve the dollars for this

Might you speak to the lack of brilliancy of the hood latch? My Passenger side stuck for 1/2 a day till about the 7th try. I am scared to close the hood now? When I looked at the cable it looks as though the cable may have been getting stuck or caught on the groves of the plastic casing that it runs along over the grill (under the hood) I greased the actually latches on both ends but I fell as though the passenger side run just makes it harder to get that side to release?

I fixed mine with a piece of cardboard



Fold a piece of an amazon box double, stuff it in between the hood and headlight

Tight , but not too tight

Now the passenger side latch will pop up when you pull
