Windshield rubber side weather stip

Hello, not sure, but I'm JRL emailed you all you may need to know.

I have a 2004 V70 from Florida with the same problem on the windshield. I was told, it is mainly cosmetic, and the seal is fine, although it does look like crap.

As for repair, you will have to replace the molding that runs the length of your car to back windshield and then another piece for the back windshield. I am not sure on the S60, but on the V70 it was pretty simple to pry the molding out when I installed the euro rails, but you still need to be careful.
in the link below, it looks like you will need part 20 and 21 from the diagram (@ $176 together) and needed for both sides. I would buy some extra clips,(22, 23 in the diagram) and chances are the corner boots (25 in the diagram) any some of that hardware.

Again, I only installed euro rails on a V70, but I would start hunting down a junk S60 of the same color and testing how easy it is to get the moldings off while trying to salvage them. If they are in decent shape, I can assure you it won't be that expensive, and the labor I was quoted for putting on the moldings was so high, I forced myself to figure it out.

If I cannot find suitable pcs. in a salvage yard why could I not just trim the cracked rubber with a razor blade. What purpose does the rubber serve, it is not even touching the windshield.

I do hope that someone finds a good solution to this problem but I spoke with Jim (JRL) about these on the phone today. My Son's new (to us) S60 has this issue although not totally bad yet. It seems that these are one piece on each side and run the length of the car to the bottom of front to rear windshields. Btw many V70s have this issue too (such as my friend's who just tore the rubber off but then there's this unsightly gutter where they were). The rubber is attached to the trim piece and are not separate so you have to replace the whole thing. They are bent (have a large arch) and so they create bulk and are difficult to ship and require a large box- plus they're fairly fragile. The dealers typically don't have them as they are not made anymore. Someplace like Erie Volvo may have them but it is difficult to even know the real name for them. Roof strips? Roof molding?

Roof trim strips and as I said, almost no one will ship them by the usual ways, they need to be trucked (too long, too fragile)

- So I was at the junk yard looking at a 2002 S60...

- The "long" piece everyone is talking about is basically....a "long" piece.
But if you look at it carefully, the rubber molding basically channels water down the "U-channel", almost like a house gutter.
This way the bulk of water is diverted away from the crevice between the windshield glass and the side.

- Admittedly, even without this trim piece, water can run down the side of the windshield glass and you will be fine anyway.

- Once I take a closer look at the "U-channel", it can be peeled off the trim work, i.e., at factory, the rubber piece was glued to the "trim piece".

- The problem is the rubber piece by itself is not available separately, otherwise you can buy it and glue it to the trim piece (using 3M all-weather adhesive etc.) and you are good to go.

- If anyone knows the source where we can buy the rubber piece by itself, please post.

I have the same issue and really dislike the current look. A source for the rubber replacement, or another solution, would be greatly appreciated.

- Here are some photos from a 2002 S60 molding I took from the junk yard. I just peeled the rubber part from the trim piece.

- It is not in a good shape, but I took it strictly for photography purposes in case you guys come up with something decent to replace this piece (someone posted a photo using garage door bottom seal).
