Well I wondered about valves when you started this thread but your very first post says you checked and checked and checked the timing. Had the timing jumped and was actually *off* when you checked it? It must have been, right?
Anyway, sorry to hear. the bottom end of these engines can go forever, don't hesitate to put on a rebuilt head.
