I would suggest that you search the misfire first.

Follow the thread I gave to verify condition of spark plugs and coils. If you ever find oil in the tunnels you can think of the PCV later. Just clean the oil on the coils, spark plugs and tunnels if it is the case.

If you want to test your PCV you can put a glove over the oil filler hole and with the engine running if it is drawn in you have a working PCV. If it blows up (inflate) then have a look at your PCV.

I am going to take the cover off this Saturday and look for any oil, as well as pull the #5 plug.

I went down into the parking garage and put a piece of plastic with a rubber band over the oil fill and it did puff up a bit. I'm getting the feeling it is the PCV. Does anyone know of a video DIY for PCV replacement or a good one with pics for a 2001 V70 2.4T? I found one for a non-turbo 1999.

After going back and reading through this, I have to ask if the PCV being blocked directly affects the way the car runs, or does it just cause the oil blow back that causes other problems?

Right it won't affect the way an engine run. However has you mentioned unmanaged crankcase pressure will cause problems with oil seals around the engine. The worst is the rear main seal that will require transmission removal to fix. Others seals will be affected as cam seals. Oil leaks will develop around the PCV system and its piping. Oil will accumulate by vaporization in the overhead gallery and in time will deteriorate components. High voltage energy produces by coils can leak to ground because of oil presence. That is why it should be fix when detected. Keep your oil dipstick a bit off its seat to vent crankcase pressure. This will be easier on seals until you fix it. The misfires you have may be caused by something else. The opening of the spark plug cover will tell.

If you decide to repair this link will be helpfull because it is more specific to your model.

I had basically the same problem with my V70 and I had a miss in cyl. 4 and 5 so it shook badly on take off. changed coil packs on both cylinders and all spark plugs while I was at it and now it works great. coil packs are anywhere from $50-80+ I buy most of my parts from autozone. hope this helps.

Did it only miss under heavy acceleration? Did you find any oil in the area around the coils?

This may not have anything to do with this car or this thread but a friend of mine is having a higher ROM very slight miss
Everything is fine (coils, etc)
My tech took a look at his ETM and said the throttle body was absolutely filthy and was probably the issue.

I opened her up today and did find oil around the top and in 2 tubes. I sopped up all the oil and replace all of the spark plugs. The #5 plug was probably the worst and they all had very light colored deposits in them (see picture). Cylinders 2 and 4 had a little oil down the tubes, but not too bad.

It runs much, much better, but I still get just the slightest miss going up the steep hill to my house, but it performs perfectly otherwise. Could this be a dirty throttle body?

My next project will be the PCV, so I can clean the TB then.

That does not look like a Copper Plug! I am using Copper after reading the Non-Copper plugs can create odd driveability issues. Plugs are cheap so replace them as the Electrode do look a little beat up!!

The plug in the picture is the Volvo R6 plug, which I assume are Bosch Platinum. I replaced them with NGK 7092 BKR6EGP G-Power Platinum and they seem to be working great. I was curious if the deposits on the plug indicate anything unusual.
